travel north america united states california burbank dining bob's big boy
Bob's Big Boy is more than a restaurant, it's an icon.
This location of Bob's, built in 1949, is the oldest remaining of 240 in America and was a major part of my youth.
I used to go with my parents before I got to high school, then it became a major element in the life of most Burrough's High School students.
If you went for lunch during the week, you could often see "celebraties" from the nearby movie studios.
When the weekend came, especially Friday nights, the drive-in became the center of life for every student old enough to drive or ride with a driver.
There would be an endless parade through the alley next to the drive-in of students showing off their vehicles and looking for future dates.
Almost without fail, my friends and I would visit Bob's, either before or after the ritual cruising of Hollywood Boulevard.
Lynn and I, along with many other former students, returned to Bob's during their 2012 50th reunion to rekindle good memories.
It's hard to tell if the food and service is as good as it seemed in the 60s because their are too many memories connected to be objective.
But, I always enjoy returning whenever in the area.

My two rather eccentric cars in the 60s, a 1950 Plymouth wagon and a 1939 Chevrolet, in which we used to cruise through Bob's, Bob's Big Boy, Burbank, California, USA.
I bought the unwanted old Chevy for about $25, painted it matte black with spray cans, and then added a humorous logo on the side.
This car had a jerry-rigged residential light switch instead of an ignition switch, had to be pushed to start, and only made it to Bob's once or twice.
